Dominic Benhura is Zimbabwe's premier contemporary artist with an impressive style all his own. He began sculpting in 1981 and has since received numerous international awards for his stone sculptures.
In 2003 he presented a work to Nelson Mandela for his office in Johannesburg, South Africa, and was commissioned by the UNDP in Zimbabwe to produce the work Peace.
Dominic's work is universal in nature, but one of his primary focuses in on the theme of children and family. Dominic has 5 children, and he says of his work :
"My work celebrates the things I hold dearest: my wife, my children, my culture".
Dominic works at his studio in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he has allows approximately 30 other artists to sculpt and to receive the benefits of international exposure. Dominics Studio is a favorite stop for the many international buyers who export Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture.
