Sculptures by this Artist:
Beven was born on the 23rd of April 1973 in Mutare, a scenic mountainous town on the eastern part of Zimbabwe. His primary and secondary education was done in Mutare and he later completed his A levels in Harare. Beaven was born to a family of seven his parents Paul and Mavis, he has two sisters and four brothers. His brother Sydney is the only other family member who is a sculptor.
Beven began sculpting in 2001 in Harare at Dominic Benhura’s Studio. As Beaven was a computer graphic artist, he was inspired by the line and form of animals and objects, using geometrical shapes to create images he decided to try out sculpting. He was taught to sculpt by Alfred Gutsa whose work he used to assist with sanding and polishing.
Beven’s influences are depicted from the natural world as well as animals, as he perfects the finishing touches, the balance and the geometric aspect of his work.
The goals he would like to reach with his sculpting would be to teach younger artists and influence them to produce original, creative works.
