Dominic Benhura began to assist his cousin, the renowned sculptor Tapfuma Gutsa at the tender age of 10. He spent his youth sculpting at the Chupungu Sculpture Park. He is now one of the most coveted of the Shona sculptors.
Benhura's work displays his ability to convey emotion through form, without using facial expression as a crutch. He also tackles a huge array of subject matter, making him one of the most respected and unique of the contemporary Shona sculptors. He has had one man shows all over the world, in countries such as Zimbabwe, Austrailia, Belgium, Holland, Germany and the United States.
