Sculptures by this Artist:
Gerald Takawira has been interested in sculpture his entire life. His father, John Takawira, was one of the best of the first generation Shona sculptors, whom he assisted from a young age. He worked alongside his father until his death in 1989.
Shortly thereafter, Gerald moved into the artist-in-residence program in Chapungu Sculpture Park.
The most outstanding feature of Takawira's work is his originality. He resisted the temptation to follow his father's style and created his own strong style. He accepts the challenge of working with more difficult stones, such as Lepidolite and Leopard stone. His work exhibits a strong understanding of the dynamics of stone.
