Stanford Derere was born in 1956 and he learned his sculpture at an early age at the BAT workshop at the National gallery of Zimbabwe. He concentrates on animal life, in particular birds, which he sculpts in stunning detail and with amazing accuracy of form. Stanford works with Dominic Benhura at Dominics Studio in Harare, Zimbabwe, and as a result of the wide exposure of working with Dominic Stanford has become a celebrated sculptor with a wide international following.
